Adoption@Heart marks four year anniversary after finding families for over 400 children

Adoption@Heart are marking four successful years as the regional adoption agency for the Black Country after finding suitable family homes for over 400 children.

Having launched in April 2019, adoption services from Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall came together to recruit adoptive parents for children needing adoptive families across the region, whilst ensuring they get the best possible support.

Four years on, Adoption@Heart has recruited and approved 220 adopters with over 80 of these being ‘early permanence’ adopters. Early permanence, otherwise known as Fostering for Adoption, is designed to speed up a child’s journey through care and aims to decrease uncertainty for children by reducing the number of moves they experience, and the trauma associated with this upheaval. These placements are used for children whose chances of returning to live with their birth families are much lower than for other children in care, and where there is a high likelihood that they will need a plan for adoption. The team are always looking for more early permanence adopters, find out more by visiting types of adoption.

Lisa Preston, Adoption@Heart Service Head said: Adoption@Heart will be 4 years old on the 1st April 2023.  So much has been achieved so far and we are very proud of the difference we have made for so many children from the Black Country.

“The need to recruit adopters does not stop and in fact we need more adopters now than ever before.  We support our adopters every step of the way, if you want to find out more information about how you can ‘adopt a child and change lives’, please contact Adoption@Heart today, we are waiting for your call.”

Lots of people can adopt, whether they are single, living together, married, a same sex couple, in employment or not working, or already have children or not. Potential adopters must legally be a UK resident and have been so for at least 12 months, as well as being aged 21 or over. They should be able to provide a stable home for a child until adulthood and beyond.

Adoption@Heart, which works in partnership with City of Wolverhampton Council, Dudley Council, Sandwell Children’s Trust and Walsall Council, holds regular information events both online and in person - these are the perfect place for those who are ready to start their adoption journey or would like more information.
